Cape
Farewell is an innovative program, created by artist David Buckland in 2001 “to
instigate a cultural response to climate change”. Cape Farwell’s annual voyages
head to the Arctic to witness the effects of rapid climate change and to
communicate through the emotional responses of the arts, as well as through
hard science, the urgency of action. The voyagers – leading artists, writers,
scientists and educators - work together during expeditions to produce
provocative and compelling film, photography, music and words, as well as
scientific observation to tell the story of what they have seen. Cape Farewell’s September 2008 journey is the first to visit the Canadian Arctic. The expedition includes Canadian youth from high schools - 16 students, representing every province and territory in Canada. The expedition includes a number of international youth, as well as 18 adult mentors, scientists, educators and staff. This international group will look at the Arctic through very different eyes and they will work together to understand the meaning of what they see from their own countries and cultures. They will go on to work together in the future to form a powerful network of young climate advocates. The regular RSS update on the expedition is at: http://www.capefarewell.com/diskobay/rss-feeds/ . Cape Farewell is a partner with the Musagetes Foundation. |
